| Nov 20.Programmed Fischer Random(Chess 960) was not played being replaced by a social lightning round robin of (9 players), won by Tony Truscott undefeated on 8.5/9 followed b Brode McClymont 6.5/9 then Mark Stokes and Michael Cashman 6/9. Last weekend Tony Weller won the Quensland Veterans tournament to add to our members clean sweep of the Queensland Chess titles for 2008 (see Nov.10 below). for full results of the social lightning see:-Current Tournament |

| Nov 10. Whilst our numbers have been down for most of this year , we won the U2000 Club Team Copmpetition , the U1600 Club Team competition and member Tony Truscott won the 2008 Quensland Chess Championship(unbeaten 5.5/7) with member Brodie McClymont taking the Queensland Minor Championship with an Impresive 7/7. A great performance all round. |
| Nov 5. All 12 players present for rd.6, results went with ratings except for 1 upset P-J Bargo(-197 pts.)against Tony McRoberts. . | Oct.6 The 2008 Wendy Terry Memorial was held over the wekend 4/5 Oct.Wendy Terry Memorial Brodie McClymont(rating 1514) had a good first day 3/3 including wins against Gene Nakauchi(2051)and David Lovejoy(1875) but fared poorly on second day with 0/3. MichaelCashman and Mark Stokes scored 4/6 , Tony Weller(jet lagged) could only manange 3.5/6,Trent Dalgleish 2.5/6 and Peter-John Bargo 2/6. |

| SEP 24. 2008 Allegro Championship, health and work related byes reduced the number of rounds to 5. We had 3 joint winners Mark Stokes, Brodie McClymont and Trent Dalgleish all on 4/5. | Aug 25.President's report on Interclub Tournament Final Round(see also July 29 below) Redcliffe played Bullwinkle in the last round of the U2000 Teams Championships today. We needed 1.5 points or more to secure the Title. Nik Stawski had White on Board 1 against Tony Truscott, Michael Cashman played Victor Davidovici on Board 2, Halim Nataprawira was paired against against Leo Wilkinson on Board 3 and Mark Stokes had the White pieces on Board 4 against Michael Van Pelt. Michael Cashman won quickly in just 20 moves against Victor Davidovici, destroying his Centre Counter Defence, to give us the dream start we wanted. Now we needed just half a point more, but the other 3 games were tense battles. Fortunately, Leo won his game in third hour of play to get us our second point and with it the Title! | July 29. President's report on the Queensland Clubs' Team Competition :- Today the Under1600 Grand-Final between Redcliffe and Bullwinkle took place. We had Michael Szabo fill in as Shayne Hunter pulled out Sat 4pm. We had a narrow half point advantage at the start of play - so a 2 all draw would be enough for us to take out first place. Unfortunately the first game to finish was on Board 3 where Brodie McClymont misplayed the Black side of a Sicilian Defence and lost to Kieron Lyons! I thought he was our best chance of winning. Meanwhile on Board 4 Regina Edwards was a sound pawn up and better developed against Tony McRoberts, on Board 2 Michael Szabo was almost equal against Nina Kissell, Gerad Akers was a piece up against Karina Mowles on Board 1- but in danger of being check-mated. How were we to get those 2 points?? Amazingly, Tony McRoberts came back to win a Bishop v Knight endgame a pawn down to make the score 1 all. Could Akers or Szabo get us 1 more point???? YES!!! Gerard Akers managed to hang on to his extra piece and avoid being checkmated. We now have a 2-1 lead and the title. Szabo and Kissell went on to draw and Redcliffe had won both the match and the U1600 Title!! On August 24 Redcliffe will also Play Bullwinkle in the U2000 Grand-Final, but we will take a 2 point lead into it after Brisbane and Bullwinkle drew 2 all today. |

| Feb. 6th. 3 abscences tonight (work and "FOUL WEATHER"), one upset when Shayne Hunter (-60 rating points) beat Mark Stokes. P-J Bargo(-560 rating points) came close to a win against Norm Braybrooke(some moves of this game made in the "no need to notate last 5 minutes may be missing, but the final moves have been recreated).
