| Nov.21 The inaugaral Redcliffe club "Fischer Random" tournament , a swiss of 6 rounds 15 minutes a player, commenced with 9 players including returned player Wayne Davison. I am not sure that quickplay is the best way to try new formats In rd2. Tony Wellers cored a win over Shayne Hunter with only 1 second left on Tony's clock and he leads the tournament with 3/3. The Club Championship rd4 game between P-J Bargo and Col Dougherty was completed with a win to P-J , but Col got his revenge when they met in the Fischer Random. Rick a 10 year old visited with us and played a few "normal" games, we hope he enjoyed his first club experience and that he will continue as a club member Current Tournament |
| Nov 14. 4 players absent for the final round of the 2007 Club Championship. Michael Cashman brought Shayne Hunter's unbeaten run to an end but with Brian Thomas managing only to draw with Tony Weller, Shayne's 5.5/7 was enough to claim the Championship for 2007. Mark Stokes was a piece up against Tony Truscott but manage to give up the extra piece and the game, the scoresheet from the game Truscott/Stokes is not available. The Game Bargo-Dougherty from Oct 24 is still to be played. Current Tournament. Games at2007 Redcliffe Club Championship |
| Nov 7. 6 players absent skewed the pairings, it is worrying that absences should have a big influence on the pairings! Shayne Hunter won against Brodie McClymont and it will need a good attendance next week to get the pairings meaningful for the last round and give Michael Cashman a chance to halt Shayne's run and give Brian Thomas a shot at =first. Current Tournament. Games at2007 Redcliffe Club Championship |
| Oct 31. 5 players absent(30% of the field) Shayne Hunter scored a win over Tony Weller(another upset win to Shayne who looks good taking the Club Championship this year). Can Michael Cashman stop his run in rd.6? Tony Truscott triumphed in a tight game against Michael Cashman and is within a half point of the leader( they drew in round one) Brodie McClymont leads the juniors and and is equal with Michael Szabo and Norm Braybrooke for best U1500. Current Tournament. Games at2007 Redcliffe Club Championship |
| Oct. 24. 3 players absent. Shayne Hunter scored an upset win against Brian Thomas to take outright lead on 3.5/4 from Tony Weller (they should meet next week). | March 27. We begin this week,s diary note with our President's report on team chess The Premier Team led the super Logan Team 2 nil on Sunday after Weller caused a big upset on Board 4 over Evlachkov and Thomas caused an even bigger upset to convincingly defeat Ablykassov on Board 3! With both Truscott and Cashman looling like at least drawing with Solomon and Sarfati, a huge upset looked on the cards again. Unfortunately Cashman touched the wrong piece by accident and had to move his Bishop- leaving it where it was would almost certainly drawn, and Truscott just lost after looking better against the never say die Solomon- but a 2 all draw was still a great result. The B team tried hard and Peter Paterson once again looked almost home against Nenad, the exchange up and rook on the 7th- but lost his rook to a knight fork and had to resign on Board 4. Szabo lost to Jule in about 20 moves, Erickson sacrificed a piece for an attack aginst Nakuchi but it did not work, and Stokes was the exchange up against Lovejoy but missed his Black squared Bishop too much- although Lovejoy found a much better line for me after the game! Alas. the gallant B Team went down 4 nil! Tal Memorial continues, one upset this week Colin Dougherty beat Tony McRoberts. With 1 round to go Brian Thomas(4.5/5) looks set to take the trophy as he has a full point lead and has already played his nearest rivals. Current Tournament. Games at2007 Tal Memorial |

| February 27. On Sunday 25 2 teams from Redcliffe Club tok part in round 1 of the inaugural Qld. Club Teams Championship, a report by club President Mark Stokes follows:- Our top team of Truscott. Cashman, Thomas & Weller caused an upset, defeating Club Bullwinkle 2.5 to 1.5. Our 2nd Team of Stokes, Szabo, Erickson & Peter Paterson lost very unluckily to Logan 2.5 to 1.5. Truscott lost to John Humphries in time trouble with Black, a Caro-Kan I thought he would draw, Cashman faced Jacob Edwards in an exciting Sicilian Dragon that ended in a draw, Thomas won over Cameron Bailey in the last game to finish & Tony Weller outplayed Kieron Olm-Milligan. What a win! We are currently equal first in the Premier Division. Stokes as Black defeated Oleg Korenevski in a Veresov 1 d4 Nf6 2 Nc3 d5 3 Bg5 Bf5 4 e3 Nbd7 where White castled Queen side and Black King side and Black's pawnstorm was much quicker than White's. Szabo and Jim Ritchie had a fairly quick draw, Erickson overlooked a mating line by by John auriel Buciu and Peter Paterson looked certain to bring home a team victory 2 pawns up but unfortunately missed the win and then blundered, so our 2nd team lost 2.5 to 1.5 The 2007 Tal Memorial starts on this Wednesday club night.
